From emergency highway closures to long-term stabilization programs, our projects span BC's most challenging terrain and some of its most critical infrastructure corridors.

North Beach slide stabilization

Deployed two Klemm 806 drill rigs to stabilize an active slide zone on Highway 97. Ninety high-capacity anchors tensioned to 3,400 kN lock-off enabled full four-lane reinstatement.

Emergency response and hazard mitigation — Dynamite Construction rapid slope stabilization BC

Working under challenging conditions alongside Emil Anderson Construction, our crew installed ninety 75 mm high-capacity anchors each extending 100 feet into the slope. These were precision-tensioned and tested to achieve a lock-off load of 3,400 kN. The system was reinforced with engineered concrete whalers and detailed rebar design. Additional scope included controlled blasting, shotcrete application, slope mesh installation, and over one hundred 32 mm thread bar rock anchors.

Horseshoe Bay rock face remediation

A destabilized slope above Berth 3 was actively shedding rock into the marine environment. High-angle access crews scaled and removed hazardous material, installing 250 m of rock bolts and 700 m² of TECCO mesh.

Working in a highly sensitive coastal setting, our crews utilized high-angle access techniques to safely scale and remove loose, hazardous material from the slope face. We installed approximately 250 metres of rock bolts and secured the area with over 700 square metres of TECCO mesh wrap, effectively mitigating ongoing rockfall risk. Additional scope included mesh system repairs, barrier fencing, and targeted common excavation.

Canal Road dip slide

Re-established two lanes of coastal roadway compromised by active slope movement. Over 25 precision blasts, 30,000 m³ excavated, and a 58-metre shotcrete anchor wall with architectural rock face finish.

Our crews executed more than 25 precision-controlled blasts within a strict 3 PPV vibration threshold. Over 30,000 cubic metres of material was excavated and hauled offsite. A marine barge landing was constructed on driven pilings to facilitate material import. A 58-metre-long, 24-foot-high shotcrete soil nail anchor wall was installed with an architectural rock face finish to blend with the surrounding coastal environment.

North Beach slide — emergency response

Engaged on an emergency basis following a catastrophic slope failure on Highway 97. With no predefined solution, our team worked in real time with engineers to stabilize the slope and maintain the corridor.

Rapid mobilization began with over 35,000 cubic metres of highly controlled trim blasting at low vibration levels. A large attenuator fence was installed at the crest to protect crews below. Two Klemm KR 806 rigs then installed 75 mm DCP thread bar anchors to 30 metres at 15-degree inclination, tensioned to 3,400 kN lock-off, supported by engineered concrete whalers, rebar design, and shotcrete application.

Cameron Lake Highway 4 emergency response

Wildfire-induced instability forced full closure of Highway 4 — the only route to Vancouver Island's west coast. Four 260-ton cranes suspended protective mesh to allow partial reopening while 2+ km of slope was scaled and stabilized.

Our crews installed a temporary protection system using four 260-ton cranes to suspend high-capacity mesh over the roadway, allowing safe single-lane alternating traffic while stabilization progressed. High-angle rock scaling operations were then carried out across more than 2 kilometres of slope, followed by rock bolt installation for long-term reinforcement. Full two-lane traffic was successfully reinstated once the slope was secured.

Royal View Transmission Line, Knox Mountain

Installed twin 750 mm waterlines along the steep slopes of Knox Mountain using rope access techniques and precision-controlled blasting in close proximity to residential structures. Anchored thrust blocks constructed to detailed rebar spec using 38 MPa concrete.

Operating in a constrained urban environment, our team executed precision-controlled blasting in close proximity to residential structures and critical infrastructure. Anchored thrust blocks were built to a highly detailed rebar specification and poured using 38 MPa concrete. All work was carried out using rope access techniques where conventional access was not feasible. A dedicated high-angle rope rescue team was maintained on site throughout to support excavation activities and ensure rapid emergency response capability.

Ford Road to Tappen Valley Road soil nail wall

Constructed a soil nail shotcrete anchor wall along Highway 1 within a severely constrained footprint beneath both an existing structure and a newly constructed bridge.

This project demanded a high level of precision and technical execution, as the wall was constructed within a severely constrained footprint beneath both an existing structure and a newly constructed bridge. Operating in tight quarters required careful coordination, specialized access, and strict adherence to safety and engineering requirements. Our crews installed over 85 number 9 DCP soil nails, followed by welded wire mesh placement and the application of more than 100 cubic metres of shotcrete to form the structural facing of the wall.

Rock slope scaling — Revelstoke to Golden

Delivered rock scaling, rock bolt installation, slope mesh, and common excavation across multiple active sites along Highway 1 between Revelstoke and Golden to improve slope safety through the national parks corridor.

Working across several active sites in mountainous terrain, our crews delivered precision trim blasting to remove unstable rock, rock bolt installation for long-term stabilization, slope mesh to mitigate rockfall hazards, and common excavation to support infrastructure improvements. All work was delivered with a strong focus on safety, efficiency, and environmental responsibility within the national park setting.

Rock slope remediation — City of Vernon

A multi-site remediation program spanning six locations across Vernon including active downtown corridors, residential areas, and slopes above Okanagan Lake. Scope included rock scaling, rock bolts, and 2,500 m² of DELTAX mesh.

Spanning six distinct locations, this project required a versatile and coordinated approach to address geotechnical challenges in both urban and natural environments. Working within an active downtown corridor, our crews managed stabilization alongside heavy traffic with strict safety controls. At a key residential site, we installed approximately 2,500 square metres of DELTAX mesh to protect properties from ongoing rockfall. Additional work along the slopes above Okanagan Lake safeguarded critical roadway infrastructure below.

Cougar Creek debris flood retention

Delivered specialized slope stabilization works alongside Ironclad Earthworks as part of the Cougar Creek debris flood retention project, including rock anchors, chute anchors, basin block anchors, slope mesh, and drain hole drilling.

Operating in steep and challenging terrain, our crews delivered critical stabilization works in coordination with the prime contractor as the debris flood retention system was being constructed. Scope included rock anchor installation for staff gauges, chute rock anchors, rock bolting within spillway walls, basin block anchor installation, extensive slope mesh draping and scaling, and drain hole drilling to improve subsurface drainage and reduce hydrostatic pressure.

Multi-site rock slope remediation across Kootenay National Park emphasizing scaling to mitigate rockfall hazards along critical infrastructure corridors, using rope access, mechanical scaling, manlift access, and rock bolt installation.

Working in steep, mountainous terrain across multiple sites, our project placed a strong emphasis on rock scaling to mitigate ongoing rockfall hazards and improve slope stability along critical infrastructure corridors. Our crews utilized high-angle rope access scaling and mechanical scaling methods including excavator-based operations and manlift access to safely and efficiently remove unstable material. Rock bolt installation and common excavation were completed to support overall slope remediation.

Old Victoria Road grout sealing

Addressed a developing sinkhole in a downtown Nanaimo roadway using air track drilling, downhole cameras, and high-pressure grout injection to locate, map, and fill subsurface voids and restore ground support beneath the road.

Working in a confined urban environment, our crews carried out detailed subsurface investigation using air track drilling to locate and define voids beneath the roadway. Exploration holes were advanced and fitted with downhole cameras, allowing accurate assessment of subsurface conditions and void geometry mapping. High-pressure grout injection was then performed to fill the identified voids and re-establish ground support, effectively stabilizing the compromised area and mitigating further risk to surrounding infrastructure.

Anarchist Viewpoint slope stabilization

Slope stabilization within a tight S-curve on a heavily travelled tourist corridor along Highway 3. Delivered 2,500 m² of rock scaling, 250 m of rock bolts, and 81 m³ of shotcrete with minimal disruption to active traffic.

Scope included approximately 2,500 square metres of rock scaling to remove unstable material, 250 metres of rock bolts to reinforce the slope, and 81 cubic metres of shotcrete for long-term surface stabilization.

Highway 16 rock scaling

Comprehensive rock slope stabilization along Highway 16 near Jasper including manual and mechanical rock scaling, precision trim blasting, rock bolt installation, and common excavation along this critical national park corridor.

Working in a mountainous environment with active rockfall hazards, our crews carried out comprehensive slope remediation to improve safety along the Highway 16 corridor. A strong emphasis was placed on rock scaling to remove unstable material using both manual and mechanical methods. Scope also included precision trim blasting to dislodge controlled sections of rock, rock bolt installation to reinforce exposed faces, and common excavation to support overall stabilization.

CN Ashcroft Subdivision slope stabilization

Constructed four shotcrete soil nail walls along an active mainline rail corridor, installing 475+ soil anchors and 385+ m³ of shotcrete while coordinating equipment movements around live train traffic.

Working directly adjacent to an active mainline rail corridor, this project required a high level of coordination and strict adherence to railway safety protocols. During drilling operations, equipment frequently extended over the track envelope, requiring crews to disengage and reposition to a safe clearance zone during train passages. Scope included four shotcrete soil nail walls incorporating over 475 soil anchors drilled to approximately 12 metres, reinforced with welded wire mesh, rebar, and more than 385 cubic metres of shotcrete. In coordination with Chemco's lock-block retaining wall, Dynamite drilled through the block system and installed additional soil nails to enhance structural performance.

Langford slope stabilization and civil works — Trans-Canada Highway

Complex slope stabilization and civil works in a sensitive coastal environment adjacent to both the ocean and a residential structure. Scope included multiple trim blasts adjacent to a log home, permanent slope mesh and rock anchors, a 1200 mm CSP culvert and headwall, and a 35-foot mechanically stabilized earth wall to create a secure parking area.

Carried out in a highly sensitive coastal environment with strict adherence to environmental regulations and fisheries timing windows, this project required multiple highly technical trim blasts adjacent to a log home with careful vibration control throughout. Permanent stabilization measures included slope mesh systems, concrete abutments, barrier fencing, and high-capacity rock anchors to mitigate ongoing rockfall risk. Drainage and civil works included debris removal, installation of a large headwall, placement of a 1200 mm CSP culvert beneath the roadway, and construction of a rip rap spill pad. A 35-foot mechanically stabilized earth wall was constructed to create a larger, secure parking area.
